Why does my amp go in protect mode?

i have a kicker L7 hooked up to a hifonics brutus amp. i have the amp only 100 watts over what the kicker takes so it should be fine. The amp when turned on makes my sub stick out far and pop in loudly and wont play after that, its in protect also. WTF?!?! any ideas why? i checked and changed the fuses.
